OCR Tools

Pull editable text out of images and scanned PDFs.

OCR (Optical Character Recognition) turns pictures of text into actual text you can copy, search, and edit. Useful for receipts, scanned contracts, screenshots, archived books, and anything that started life as paper. Both OCR tools here run Tesseract.js in your browser — no uploads.

Frequently asked questions

What languages does OCR support?
English is fully supported. Latin-alphabet languages with similar character sets generally work too, with reduced accuracy on accented characters.
How accurate is browser OCR?
For clean, high-resolution scans of printed text, accuracy is typically 95%+ for English. Handwriting and faded scans are harder; expect manual cleanup.
What's the difference between PDF to Text and OCR Scanned PDF?
PDF to Text extracts the existing text layer (fast, exact). OCR Scanned PDF runs character recognition on PDFs that don't have a text layer — typically scans or image-only PDFs.
